Here are some pictures of hikes I have been on with the Oak Ridges Trail Association. Some people are having challenges manipulating the thumbnail pages, so I created this HELP file. (Click on HELP). If you have a Facebook account, please consider joining our Oak Ridges Trail Group.

• Wed., Dec. 31, 2008. New Year’s Eve Hike, 8 km T&B with loops, Mary Lake trails. No dogs please. Harold Sellers

  A large group of people turned out for this end of the year hike. It was a little chilly, but the sun came out making a great day.

• Mon., Dec. 22, 2008. York Region Forest Hall Tract – (map 4) – 2-2.5 hrs. Slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs welcome. Sheltered forested trails. Boots/icers/Snowshoes depending on the weather. Brian or Wilma

  Brian & Wilma were away, so this hike was led by Joan. It was a little longer and faster than normal, but we all made it.

• Wed., Dec. 17, 2008 Annual Christmas Party Hike. Aurora trails loop hike on ORT, Nokiidaa Trail and town trails, 10 km, 2.5 hrs, easy. Party to follow at home of Brian & Wilma at 1:00 pm. Harold

  Good hiking but ice with snow on top made icers a great asset. I put some movies of the hike and party on the facebook Oak Ridges Trail Group.

• Mon., Dec.15, 2008. - York Region Forest North Tract – (map 4) 2-2.5 hrs. Slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs welcome. Boots/icers/Snowshoes depending on the weather. Forested terrain. Bring a warm drink and snacks. Brian or Wilma

  A good day of hiking. Icers were needed in the parking lot. But the trail was okay

• Wed., Dec. 3, 2008. Millage Anniversary Hike. Uxbridge East ORT (Map 5). 7th Conc to Fast Eddies Diner for lunch and return, 16 km, 4.5 hrs, moderate-fast. We’ll also celebrate Brian & Wilma’s wedding anniversary on the trail. Harold

  There were numerous people joining harold for this annual celebration. Some just came to the Anniversary site, It was a good day of hiking. Although I only did half .

• Mon., Dec. 1, 2008. - Durham Forest – (map 5) Uxbridge ORT and Trans Canada Trail. 2.5 hrs. Slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs welcome. Boots/icers/Snowshoes depending on the weather. Rolling forested terrain. Bring a warm drink and snacks. Brian and Wilma.

  20 people enjoyed this great hike. The snow was a little deep but we managed without snowshoes.

• Mon., Nov.17, 2008. - Palgrave Forest – (map 1) –loop hike – 2-2.5 hrs. Slow/mod social outing along a variety of scenic forested trails with streams and ponds. Possible beaver sighting. Well mannered dogs are welcome. Wilma and Brian

  Our first hike in snow with a bit of bush whacking for some added fun. It was still another great day of hiking.

• Mon., Oct. 20, 2008 - York Region Forest – Eldred King Woodlands, (map 4) loop hike – 2-2.5 hrs, Slow to moderate. Forested and meadow trails. Some moderate hills and sandy areas. Well mannered dogs are welcome. Wilma and Brian

  42 people enjoyed today's 8 km hike. It was a perfect day and again the rain held off until the hike was over.

• Wed., Oct. 8, 2008 Harold hikes the Iroquoia Bruce Trail section, part 13, led by Bob Ellison. Moderate 14 km there and back. Battlefield Park is one of the major locations where we won our independence in the war of 1812 -1814. Devil's Punch Bowl will be a special side trip not to be missed. Everyone is welcome back after to Bob & Maureen's

We had a great hike on this section of the Bruce Trail. It rained a little but the main deluge held off until the hike was over

• Mon., Oct. 6, 2008 - Uxbridge – (map 5) Secord-Goodwood Tracts, TandB and loop hike – 2-2.5 hrs - slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs are welcome. Scenic ponds, meadows and forested trails. Bring water and snack. Join us for lunch afterwards. Wilma and Brian

  Over 30 hikers were out for this perfect hiking day. My memory is getting bad, I can't remember exact number. At any rate Brian was back to his usual 8 km hike.

• Fri, Oct. 3, 2008 - Uxbridge - Brock/Walker Woods/Glen Major Tracts - (map 5) - moderate 14km/ 4 hr loop hike, including lunch on trail. Come on a ramble along the south edge of the Oak Ridges Moraine and hopefully experience some early fall colours. A combination of meadows and hilltop lookouts plus sheltered forest trails. Possible dropout at 8.5km where we will eat lunch on trail prior to our exploration of the more hilly Glen Major region. Brian and Wilma

  22 hikers started out on this 17 km hike and after lunch 10 finished the last 8 km. This was the first of Brian and Wilma's day hikes. It was a great success and we are looking forward to more of them.

• Mon., Sept. 22, 2008. - Uxbridge Countryside Preserve Trail – Uxbridge – (map 5) 2.5 hrs – slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs are welcome. Rolling meadowland and woodlands located at the southern boundary of Uxbridge. Brian and Wilma

  42 hikers enjoyed todays outing. It was a beutifull day and we walked 8 km. Almost half the group went for lunch.

• Mon., Sept. 8, 2008 York Region Forest Hall Tract – (map 4). 2.5-3 hrs. Slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs welcome. Forest and meadow terrain. Bring a drink and snacks. Brian & Wilma

  A slight longer than normal hike for Brian & Wilma (10.5 km). But the weather was perfect for hiking.

• .Sun., Sept. 7, 2008. Join us for a hike in memory of Virginia Johnson. King East (Map 2), Mary Lake. 6 km, 2 hr, there and back, moderate pace. No dogs please Harold Sellers

In spite of the rain, 35 friends and family joined Harold on this 5 km memorial hike. There was a chance to tell some fond memories of Ginny. Some left early and missed the sun during the later part of the hike.

• Mon, Sept 1, 2008. Headwaters Park, Richmond Hill. T&B and loop hike following trails alongside three tributaries of the Rouge River. Slow pace. 6 km, 2.5 hrs. . Harold Sellers for Stan.

24 hikers enjoyed the beautiful weather as Harold led us through a maze of trails in Richmond Hill.

• Mon, May 5, 2008. York Region Forest - Bendor & Graves Tract, ORTA map 4 Loop hike - 2.5-3 hrs, slow to moderate. Well-mannered dogs are welcome. Shady forested trails. Wilma and Brian

  Brian & Wilma were back to lead on this very scenic hike.

• Mon, Apr 21,2008. Uxbridge –– Durham Forest and ORT map 5 Loop hike – 2.5 - 3hrs.- slow to moderate. Well-mannered dogs are welcome. Moderate hills through mature forest. Gary Niece

  Gary led us on a 11 Km hike. A little further and faster than we are used to, But we managed to finish and enjoy the hike.

• Mon, Apr 7, 2008 Uxbridge – Walker Tract, ORTA map 5 Loop hike – 2.5 - 3hrs. - slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs are welcome. Sheltered, winding trails through mature forest. Russ Burton.

  Another great hike with Russ subbing for Brian & Wilma. Some times the snow was a bit deep if you stepped of the trail but it was still afun hike.

• Mon., Mar. 24, 2008 York Region Forest Hall Tract (map 4). 2.5-3 hrs. Slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs welcome. Sheltered forested trails. Snowshoes? Boots? Bring a drink and snacks. Joan Taylor

  17 people enjoyed this days great hike. People used snowshows, icers & just boots, so the conditions were good for all.

• Sat., Mar. 15, 2008 King East (Map 2) Slow to moderate 1.5 - 2 Hrs. Will go E or W depending on conditions and hikers. Bob

  Only three of us turned up on this beutiful day. We did a T & B on the East side. Two of us used snowshoes & one didn't so the hike was good for all. Too bad more people did not come out.

• Mon., Mar. 10, 2008. Uxbridge Countryside Preserve Trail, Uxbridge (map 5). 2.5 hrs, slow to moderate. Join us for a March Break outing. Well mannered dogs are welcome. Snowshoes? Boots? Rolling meadowland and woodlands located at the southern boundary of Uxbridge. Brian and Wilma

  One person had to turn back because of no snowshoes, but the rest of us had a great time snow shoeing.

• Mon., Jan 28, 2008. Palgrave Forest, Map 1 Loop Hike 2.5 hrs - 3 hrs. Slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs welcome. Snowshoes? Boots? A variety of sceinic forest trails. Meet in parking lot N of Mill Pond at N end of Palgrave. Bring a water and snack. Brian and Wilma

  11 people started out on this hike, but 2 without snowshoes left early. Brian led us through a twisted maze of forested trails. It was a perfect day for snow showing.

• Sat., Feb 23, 2008 King East (Map 2) Slow to moderate 1.5 - 2 Hrs. Will go E or W depending on conditions and hikers. Meet at Keele St. entrance 0.8 km north of 15th Sdrd.. Bob & Diane Hughes

  10 hikers joined me on this beautiful sunny day. That's 2 Saturdays of sun in a row! We hiked 5.1 Km East this time.

• Sat., Feb 16, 2008 King East (Map 2) Slow to moderate 1.5 - 2 Hrs. Will go E or W depending on conditions and hikers. Bob & Diane Hughes

  It was a beautiful sunny day and we decided to hike west this time. The region had cleared the Keele St Entrance, so parking was no problem. 5 hikers enjoyed this pleasent 5 Km hike.

• Mon., Jan 28, 2008 Durham Forest, Map 5. Uxbridge ORT and Trans Canada Trail. 2.5 hrs. Slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs welcome. Snowshoes? Boots? Your choice. Rolling forested terrain. Brian or Wilma

  26 hikers joined Brian & Wilma. Some snowshows, icers & just plain boots were used. It was a beautiful day for an outing in the woods.

• Sat., Jan 26, 2008 King East (Map 2) Slow to moderate 1.5 - 2 Hrs. Will go E or W depending on conditions and hikers. Meet at Keele St. entrance 0.8 km north of 15th Sdrd. Bob & Diane Hughes

  9 hikers were out for todays hike. Diane couldn't make it so Bob led this 5 Km hike East around Eaton lake. It was a nice hike with the sun poking out part way through.

• Mon., Jan 14, 2008. York Region Forest North Tract, Map 4, 2.5-3 hrs. Slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs welcome. Snowshoes? Boots? Your choice… Forested terrain. Bring a warm drink and snacks. Going for lunch after to thaw out. Contact Brian or Wilma

  16 hikers enjoyed todays hike. Brian & Wilma could not make it, so Joan led the hike with Bob Comforts assistance. Snowshoes were not needed, but a few people wore icers.
