Here are some pictures of hikes I have been on with the Oak Ridges Trail Association. Some people are having challenges manipulating the thumbnail pages, so I created this HELP file. (Click on HELP). If you have a Facebook account, please consider joining our Oak Ridges Trail Group.

• Mon. May 10 2010. Uxbridge, Brock Tract and Wilder Forest and Wildlife Area (map 5) - slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs welcome. Join us on this new loop hike exploring the meadow and forest trails along with new trails in the Wilder property to the north. You will be amazed at the wide trails and scenic vistas in this mature forested area. Bring water and snack. Join us for lunch afterwards. Wilma and Brian

  40 + people joined Brian & Wilma on this interesting hike. The weather was perfect for hiking.

• Mon. April 26 2010. York Region Forest - Bendor & Graves Tract, (map 4). Loop hike - 2-2.5 hrs, slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs are welcome. Shady forested trails. Meet in parking area at end of Kennedy Rd., 1km N of Davis drive. Bring water and snack. Join us for lunch in Newmarket. Bob Hughes

  Brian & Wilma originally couldn't make it back in time for this hike so I led it. They actually got back in time & came on the hike, but were a little jet lagged. It was a good hike with 43 people. A number of us went to Cousins after.

• Wed. 14 April 2010. Orono Crown Lands. T&B/loops, 14 km, 4 hr, moderate-fast. Drop out points. Hike along Wilmot Creek (Rainbow Trout should be spawning) and return through the former Ont. Provincial Tree Nursery. Refreshments at Dave Hinton’s. John Windatt or Dave Hinton

  A nice hike, beautiful weather. Probably a liitle late for the spawning, but we did see a few Trout. We celibrated Daves birthday at lunch. He's still a young guy by my standards :-)

• Mon. 12 April 2010. York Region Forest – Eldred King Woodlands and Scout Tract (map 4)..Loop hike – 2-2.5 hrs, Slow to moderate. Forested and meadow trails. Some moderate hills, ponds and sandy areas. Well mannered dogs are welcome. Meet in parking lot, W side of Hwy 48, 2.7km N of Ballantrae/Aurora Rd. Bring water and snack. Join us for lunch afterwards. Bob and Diane Hughes

  It was a beautiful morning for a hike; we travelled almost 8 km.  Ten hungry people went to Hansons' for lunch.

• Mon. 29 March, 2010. Uxbridge (ORTA map 5). Secord-Goodwood Tracts, loop hike, 2-2.5 hrs - slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs are welcome. Scenic frozen ponds, meadows and forested trails. Boots or snowshoes, dependent on weather. Meet at Secord Parking Lot, 2km south of Goodwood Rd (Durham 21) in Goodwood on Concession 3, E on Secord Rd. Bring water and snack. • Mon. 1 Mar, 9, 2010. Palgrave Forest (ORTA map 1). Loop hike 2-2.5 hrs. Slow/mod social outing along a variety of scenic forested trails. Meet in parking area North of Mill Pond at north end of Palgrave, E side of Peel Rd. 50, 2.7km S of Hwy 9. Bring warm drinks and snack. Join us for lunch afterwards in Schomberg to thaw out and enjoy Sheena’s fabulous lemon cake. Well mannered dogs are welcome. Wilma and Brian

• Mon. Feb 15, 2010. York Region Forest - Bendor & Graves Tract (ORTA map 4). 2-2.5 hrs. Slow to moderate loop hike. Snowshoes? Boots? Your choice…. Sheltered forest trails. Bring a warm drink and snacks. Well mannered dogs are welcome.. Join us for lunch afterwards in Newmarket. Brian and Wilma

  A perfect winter morning for a walk in the woods in the Bendor and Graves Tract of York Region Forest.

• Mon. Feb 1, 2010. Uxbridge - (ORTA map 5). Walker Side Trails 2-2.5 hrs, forested terrain. Slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs welcome. Snowshoes? Boots? Your choice. Bring a warm drink and snacks. Going for lunch after to thaw out. Brian & Wilma

• Mon. Jan 25, 2010. York Region Forest Hall Tract (ORTA map 4). 2-2.5 hrs. Slow to moderate. Well mannered dogs welcome. Join us for a celebration of Robbie Burns Day with a ‘sprited’ address to the haggis by Charlie Atkinson. Sheltered forested trails. Boots, icers or snowshoes - depending on the weather. Bring a drink and snacks. Brian & Wilma

  Once again, a unique hike was held for ORTA's Monday Trekkers group as Charlie and Janet Atkinson returned to help us celebrate the life of Scottish poet Robbie Burns.  Charlie is renowned for his spirited 'Address to a Haggis', delivered on trail with suitable flair.  This was followed by a toast to the bard and a special 'haggis' provided by Janet for those with a sweet tooth...  Thank you Charlie and Janet for continuing another ORTA tradition on the Oak Ridges Trail.

• Mon. Jan 11, 2010. Rogers Reservoir, East Gwillimbury, and Nokiidaa Trail T&B. 6 km, slow pace, 2½ hours. Hiking boots essential; icers or snowshoes recommended depending on weather. Bring a snack and hot drink. Well mannered dogs on leash welcome. Lunch option afterwards. Stan Butcher

  About 15 people enjoyed today's hike. It was a pleasant scenic walk by the Holland river.
